The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Robert J. Chamberlain (ASN: RA-14324685), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 November 1950 in the vicinity of Yongwon-ni, Korea. An undetermined number of the enemy had set up a roadblock on the ridges bordering the road on which the 2d Infantry Division was moving and were bringing an intense volume of automatic weapons fire to bear on the vehicular column. While others sought cover, Sergeant Chamberlain moved into an attack on an enemy machine gun emplacement, destroying the machine gun and killing several enemy riflemen. He then returned to the road, loaded a vehicle with wounded and succeeded in removing them to a rear aid station. The gallant conduct displayed by Sergeant Chamberlain reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
