Corporal Adams distinguished himself by intrepid actions near Schonenberg, Germany, on 9 April 1945 while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 386th Infantry Regiment, 97th Infantry Division. While moving forward to attack the town of Schonenberg, his company met with intense enemy machine-gun fire, but the enemy gun positions could not be definitely located. Corporal Adams volunteered to find these positions and with the enemy approximately 75 yards away, he proceeded to cross a bald knob of ground until he was discovered and killed by enemy machine-gun fire. His unquestionable valor in close combat is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the 97th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
