(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) James Simmons Timothy, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of Company D, 1st Battalion, 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in France, on 12 July 1944. When several officers in charge of several platoons of assault troops were wounded, Captain Timothy reorganized the men and led them to accomplish their objective. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Timothy, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
