    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Cavalry) Edward Chrysoston David Scherrer, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 43d Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop (Mechanized), 43d Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces from 1 to 13 July 1943, at New Georgia, Solomon Islands. Captain Scherrer led a small reconnaissance party which landed in the Munda airfield area of New Georgia five days before the invasion force, and then spent two weeks performing hazardous missions in that sector that was heavily controlled by the Japanese. Captain Scherrer’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 43d Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
