(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Arthur Klein (ASN: 0-1293266), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 106th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division, V Amphibious Corps, in action against enemy forces at Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands, on 19 February 1944. During a critical phase of battle, First Lieutenant Klein turned what might have been defeat into an all-out assault on a Japanese strongpoint. He knocked out enemy machine gun nests, diagnosed enemy positions and strength, and led his platoon with a high spirit that kept up the morale of his men. His extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 27th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
