The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Major General Ernest Nason Harmon (ASN: 0-5282), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding General, 1st Armored Division, in action against enemy forces in Tunisia in May 1943. General Harmon exposed himself to intense enemy fire to personally scout German forces holding up his troops and then led his unit in a new advance. Major General Harmon’s outstanding leadership, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Armored Division, and the United States Army.
