(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Air Corps) Gordon Wadsworth Fowler (ASN: 0-428487), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action while serving with the 9th Air Force, in action against the enemy in the European Theater of Operations, in 1944. Major Fowler led a formation of twelve P-47 Thunderbolt fighter-bombers in an attack against more than 30 enemy planes. Major Fowler vigorously pressed home his attacks, driving enemy planes from attempted attacks upon members of his flight and personally accounted for two probably destroyed. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major Fowler, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
