(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Edgar Collins Doleman (ASN: 0-19131), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding Officer, 3d Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces on 22 September 1943 at Acerno, Italy. Lieutenant Colonel Doleman’s battalion marched 54 miles in 33 hours to win a pitched battle for a critical road junction. Lieutenant Colonel Doleman’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 3d Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
