    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Staff Sergeant George Francis Braga (ASN: 6576092), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company I, 3d Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, Philippine Division, in action against enemy forces on 3 January 1942, in the vicinity of Layac, Philippine Islands. Staff Sergeant Braga ran through heavy fire to give information which coordinated an attack and prevented American troops from destroying each other. His extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

The Japanese were threatening to divide the friendly forces and Sergeant Braga crossed through the fierce fighting on No Man’s Land to prevent the American forces from firing on each other. Staff Sergeant Braga’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
