Although under intense small arms and automatic weapons fire, he calmly moved from man to man, directing their fire and encouraging hem to maximum effort. When the Battery displaced to new positions, he remained in the exposed area to supervise the orderly evacuation of all casualties, equipment and personnel. General Barth’s courageous leadership was an inspiration to his men and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
