(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Colonel (Infantry) George Bittman Barth (ASN: 0-11241), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Commanding Officer of the 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces in France, on 27 – 28 October 1944. Following the landings at Normandy, Colonel Barth led his regiment on breakthrough operations across France with the THIRD Army until 28 October 1944, when he was seriously wounded in action near Metz, France, and had to be evacuated. Colonel Barth’s outstanding leadership, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 90th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
