Bell, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving with the 36th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Italy during World War II. Although exposed to continuous intense shelling, Lieutenant Bell went from gun position to gun position rendering first aid. He was often stunned by shell bursts, but continued to give aid to wounded and finally obtained an ambulance to evacuate them. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
