Headquarters, 36th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 238 (1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Isaac H Barger (ASN: 35631280), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 143d Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 25 November 1944, in France. The 1st Platoon had approached to within 100 yards f a road junction when the men were halted by heavy automatic weapons and rifle fire. Private First Class Barger observed the position from which the hostile fire was coming and began crawling toward it. The enemy concentrated their fire on him and wounded him, but he valiantly continued forward. When he was 30 yards from the enemy, he rose to his feet, threw a hand grenade and, firing his rifle, rushed the position. By his daring assault, he killed one German, wounded two others, and eliminated the enemy strong point, enabling the remainder of his platoon to move forward and capturer the rest of the hostile force defending the road junction. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Barger, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
