(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Elliott Woodrow Amick, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, 142d Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division, on the front lines in Italy. Lieutenant Colonel Amick was conspicuous for his role in the Battle of San Pietro, and for the flanking operation he directed near Monte Cassino, Italy, where he was wounded on 1 February 1944. He remained at the head of his battalion for three days, in spite of his injuries, refusing evacuation to direct the capture of the ridge at Villetri, opening the road to Rome. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Lieutenant Colonel Amick, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
