Felix Zaniewski was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1942 upon graduation from the University of Connecticut, and served as an Army Infantry Officer during World War II. He left active duty for the Army Reserve after he war, and received his juris doctorate from the University of Virginia in 1948. He transferred to the Air Force Reserve in 1946 and was recalled to active duty in 1952. He retired in 1979 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.

Zaniewski (ASN: 0-448125), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Military Police Platoon, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
