Although subjected to heavy enemy artillery fire and fierce tank attacks, Lieutenant Winter continually manned forward observation posts and skillfully directed the effective firing of his 75-mm. howitzer platoon. His bravery under fire and devotion to duty inspired the men of his company. Lieutenant Winter’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
