Ybarra (ASN: 0-2055109), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily in 1943. During a heavy enemy artillery barrage, Lieutenant Ybarra calmly and efficiently moved his battalion’s motor pool to a more protected area. Then, despite grave danger of exploding shells, he administered first aid to the wounded. His coolness and initiative inspired his men and reduced the extent of damage to our material. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
