The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Homer Williams (ASN: 34128494), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily, on 5 August 1943. When a comrade fell wounded during a savage enemy counterattack, Private Williams, despite heavy mortar and machine gun fire, left his place of cover and proceeded to the wounded man’s aid. While attempting to evacuate this man, Private Williams was mortally wounded. His unselfish action was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
