Robert Wylie graduated from Winside (Nebraska) High School, and attended Wayne State Teacher’s College in Wayne, Nebraska. He then attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, receiving his B.D. degree in 1942, and was ordained a Methodist minister. He served with the 103 Infantry Division and at FIRST Army Headquarters in World War II, earning a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. From 1946 to 1947 he attended the University of Southern California. He returned to service as a U.S. Army chaplain, serving with the 2d Logistical Command in Japan. When war broke out in Korea he was sent to the combat zone where, during his ministry to the troops in the field, he earned a Silver Star. After his retirement from military service as a lieutenant colonel, he pastored Liberty Methodist Church in Arizona, serving there until his second retirement.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Chaplain’s Corps) Robert Bruce Wylie, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Chaplain with the 25th Infantry Division, in action in Korea. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Chaplain Wylie, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
