(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant William Wenderoth (ASN: 32056829), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa in 1943. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant William Wenderoth (ASN: 32056829), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, while temporarily attached to the 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily, on or about 3 August 1943. During a violent engagement with the enemy, Sergeant Wenderoth stormed an enemy machine gun nest without assistance despite heavy fire and captured it. Later, he removed a wounded officer from a forward position under intense machine gun fire to a place of safety. Sergeant Wenderoth’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
