The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Albert C. Wehmeyer (ASN: 35499466), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. Exposed to concentrate ed and deadly enemy fire, and hampered by a lack of supplies, Technician Fifth Grade Wehmeyer with disregard for his own life, remained on this, one of the first American beachheads to be established in France, for six hours, treating casualties and aiding in their evacuation. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
