The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Norman T. Woods (ASN: 0-422278), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during the period from January to April 1943. While leading a motor patrol to a designated point several miles beyond our most advanced outposts, Lieutenant Woods encountered heavy enemy fie. Ordering two jeeps to remain and cover his advance with crossfire, Lieutenant Woods proceeded forward alone to the designated position. His courage and determination to complete a dangerous mission displayed the highest traditions of the Military Service.
