The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Quartermaster Corps) George V. Visel (ASN: 0-501510), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Captain (Quartermaster Corps) George V. Visel (ASN: 0-501510), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, in action at Sicily, on or about 10 July 1943. Observing that a landing craft had been struck by an enemy shell and the lives of the personnel were endangered by burning gasoline and ammunition with which the vessel was loaded, Captain Visel quickly organized a rescue squad, proceeded through the exploding gasoline and ammunition, and evacuated the wounded. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Captain Visel reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
