Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 34 (July 28, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technician Fifth Grade Max Weinstein (ASN: 12023214), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during World War II. During an advance on enemy positions, Corporal Weinstein’s company was subjected to extremely heavy enemy artillery fire. Corporal Weinstein left his place of safety, crossed an area swept by enemy machine gun fire and administered medical attention to a wounded comrade. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
