The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Chapman L. Turner (ASN: 12022670), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, during he period from January to May 1943. Continually exposing himself to enemy fire while coordinating the attack of his squad, Sergeant Turner, by his aggressive leadership, inspired his men in fierce hand-to-hand combat with a strong enemy force, and succeeded in completely annihilating enemy forces occupying that sector.
