Louis Miller was one of three members of this air crew to receive a posthumous award of the Silver Star during the Battle of the Bismarck Sea. Although seven members of the crew were seen bailing out of their bomber after it was heavily damaged by a Japanese fighter, all were subsequently declared missing in action.
