The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry), [then First Lieutenant] Jack Streeter (ASN: 0-529122), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 2d Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Ramseheid, Germany, on 2 February 1945. When his platoon was impeded by intense machine gun concentrations from reinforced enemy pillboxes, Captain Streeter, with utter disregard for personal safety, courageously moved about the impact area drawing enemy fire and thus enabling his men to deploy to more strategic positions. He then crawled to an exposed vantage point, directed accurate fire upon the foe and neutralized the hostile strongpoints. Captain Streeter’s gallant actions and outstanding leadership were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
