The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal Jose Justiniano-Lopez (ASN: RA-30451672), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the Medical Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action in Korea. On 23 December 1950, near Hungnam, Korea, a squad was moving into a defense position when by mistake it went into an anti-personnel mined area. Two mines detonated seriously wounding four members of the squad. With utter disregard for his personal safety, Corporal Justiniano-Lopez ventured into the dangerous area, administered first-aid, and assisted in evacuating the wounded to a place of safety. Corporal Justiniano-Lopez’s heroism reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
