The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Daniel L. Goode (ASN: RA-11191582), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Battery A, 3d Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion (Self-Propelled), 3d Infantry Division, in action in Korea. On 23 December 1950, near Hungnam, Korea, a squad was moving into a defense position when by mistake it went into an anti-personnel mined area. Two mines detonated seriously wounding four members of the squad. At this time, with utter disregard for his personal safety, Private First Class Goode rushed into the mined field, administered first aid, and assisted in evacuating the wounded men from the danger area. Private First Class Goode’s heroic action reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
