The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Master Sergeant Flavel H. Warr (ASN: RA-44036745), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action in Korea. On 22 December 1950, on the Songehon-gaug River, west of Hungnam, Korea, Sergeant Warr volunteered to remove a Republic of Korea soldier from a mine field. The Korean soldier had accidently strayed into the mine field detonating two mines, thereby wounding himself to the extent that he could not move. Sergeant Warr crawled through the mine field, which was located near enemy line, to the wounded man and then pulled him to a position where litter bearers could pick him up. The gallant action of Sergeant Warr, exposed to the hazard of possible injury to himself from the mine field and possible fire from the enemy, reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
