The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Robert L. Dumas (ASN: 38342291), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Service Company, 68th Tank Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action in the vicinity of Wassertrudingen, Germany, on 6 August 1945. When several trucks and trailers were set afire in the area of an ammunition Depot, Sergeant Dumas, despite the danger from exploding shells, courageously drove the vehicles across perilous terrain to a stream and fearlessly extinguished the blaze, thereby preventing casualties among the men of his organization and saving much valuable automotive equipment and supplies. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Sergeant Dumas reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
