The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Loyd Junior Wilson (MCSN: 1180537), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy of the United Nations while serving as a Machine Gunner of Weapons Company, First Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in the Republic of Korea on 6 October 1952. Occupying a position on the main line of resistance when his sector was subjected to an intense and devastating barrage of enemy artillery and mortar fire, Private First Class Wilson unhesitatingly rushed forward through the deadly fire to aid a wounded Marine lying in an exposed position. Quickly picking up his wounded companion, he proceeded to carry him up the treacherous hill in a valiant attempt to reach a safe position. Unyielding in the face of the intense hail of fire, he bravely continued to struggle up the slope until he fell, mortally wounded by an enemy mortar shell. By his courageous initiative, marked fortitude and selfless efforts in behalf of a comrade, Private First Class Wilson served to inspire all who observed him. His great personal valor in the face of heavy odds reflects the highest credit upon himself and enhances the finest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
