The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Carl K. Rambo (ASN: 33036458), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 70th Tank Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily in July and August 1943. Sergeant Rambo, a tank commander, led his platoon against a known enemy position heavily protected with the Anti-Tank weapons and mortars. During this attack, Sergeant Rambo’s tank was hit by enemy anti-tank fire and immediately burst into flames. Although himself badly wounded, Sergeant Rambo succeeded in evacuating his men from the tank and assisted them to a place of comparative safety. His courage and devotion to duty inspired his men in the successful culmination of the assault. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
