The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Private] Robert A. Price (ASN: 32614038), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Trina, Sicily, on 3 August 1943. When his squad leader was painfully wounded during a savage encounter with hostile forces, Sergeant Price assumed command and skillfully directed devastating fire on enemy strongholds. His courage and coolness under heavy enemy mortar, machine gun, and small arms fire inspired his men and repulsed the men. Sergeant Price’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
