The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) James Estrem Bousquet (ASN: 0-5339924/RA-16862502), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. First Lieutenant Bousquet distinguished himself while serving as a Platoon Leader with Company C, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. On 24 April 1969, Lieutenant Bousquet’s unit was on a search and destroy mission in the Central Highlands when it came in contact with a larger enemy force. On numerous occasions he exposed himself to the intense enemy fire to better direct the fire of his men. When his Commander was wounded, he immediately went to his aid. Braving the enemy fire with complete disregard for his own personal safety, he crossed the exposed area. Upon reaching his Commander, he was mortally wounded. First Lieutenant Bousquet’s exceptional courage, determination and exemplary devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
