The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Specialist Fourth Class David Darrell Snover (ASN: 54906872), United States Army, for gallantry in action against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Fourth Class Snover distinguished himself by intrepid actions on 12 June 1970 while serving as a Rifleman with Company B, 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry Regiment, Americal Division. On that date, the company was conducting a search and clear mission near Cam To when it was assaulted by an unknown size North Vietnamese Army force. Reacting immediately and with complete disregard for his personal safety, Specialist Snover began to close on the enemy positions. Braving a fierce concentration of hostile rounds, Specialist Snover delivered devastating bursts of fire as he advanced. Ignoring the enemy barrage, Specialist Snover continued to engage the insurgents as he moved forward until he was mortally wounded by enemy fire. Through his timely and courageous actions, Specialist Snover was instrumental in minimizing friendly casualties and served as an inspiration to his entire unit. Specialist Fourth Class Snover’s personal heroism, professional competence, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Americal Division, and the United States Army.
