The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Corps of Engineers) Albro L. Parsons, Jr. (ASN: 0-24259), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily in July 1943. Captain Parsons advanced beyond the infantry front lines and participated in a reconnaissance to gain information on the conditions of an airfield, the Division’s initial objective. At this time, roads leading to the field and part of he landing ground were under long-range enemy artillery fire. When an investigation revealed that several 500-pound aerial bombs, wired for demolition, had been placed on the runway, Captain Parsons, without regard for his personal safety, assisted in disconnecting the mined charges and thereby prevented the destruction of the landing ground. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
