The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Thomas A. Casale (ASN: RA-12306216), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Service Battery, 39th Field Artillery Battalion, 3d Infantry Division, in action Korea. On 25 January 1951, near Chonan, Korea, Private Casale, without regard for his personal safety, entered a burning kitchen truck and removed a faulty burner, the cause of the fire, thereby making it possible for the fire fighters to extinguish the fire. By this heroic and selfless act, he prevented destruction of government property, and possible loss of life inasmuch as the fire threatened to spread to a nearby building housing several of his sleeping comrades. Private Casale’s display of courage reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
