The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant John O’Shea (ASN: 32105385), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from April through August 1943. During an extremely heavy and accurate enemy artillery barrage, Sergeant O’Shea, displaying fearless leadership under the most adverse conditions, maintained his platoon’s position and prevented an enemy attack. Sergeant O’Shea’s action, at the cost of his life, exemplified the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
