Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 41 (August 28, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Technician Fifth Grade] George H. Perry (ASN: 11000056), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with a Field Artillery Battalion of the 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from April through July 1943. When his artillery liaison section was badly dispersed by effective enemy artillery and small arms fire, Sergeant Perry continued operating his radio. Later, he moved it farther forward under fire to an exposed position affording better observation, thereby enabling such effective artillery fire to be levied upon the enemy as to compel their withdrawal. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
