The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Frank Perry (ASN: 6552294), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Saint Cloud, Algeria, 8 November 1942. During the Oran Offensive, Sergeant Perry, on his own initiative and heedless of personal safety, left the cover of the ditch in which he was lying, went into the town of Saint Cloud and located a man who had been wounded by enemy fire. In assisting the wounded man back to safety, Sergeant Perry discovered an abandoned truck in running condition, placed his comrade inside and drove it out of town in the face of withering enemy fire. This courageous act was an inspiring example to the men of Company C, 18th Infantry Regiment. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
