Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 363 (August 18, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Sergeant First Class Clarence J. Eno (ASN: RA-42171999), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action in Korea. On 19 February 1951, Sergeant Eno was occupied in the battalion area near Kamzuk-United Nations, Korea, when fire of unknown origin broke out in the supply tentage. Ammunition in storage almost immediately began to detonate and the area became hazardous due to the exploding rounds and flying shrapnel. Sergeant Eno, however, ran to a _ ton vehicle and drove it from the danger area. Returning to the scene of the blaze, Sergeant Eno began to throw water on adjacent tents to prevent them from burning and following his forceful example, other members of the unit began to drench the tents with water. Sergeant Eno then commenced unloading ammunition from a trailer in the vicinity making two trips laden with boxes until joined by others in his labors. Sergeant Eno’s timely and heroic actions saved vital supplies from total destruction, reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
