Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 65 (November 26, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class [then Private] Marlin Nasby (ASN: 37291602), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily during the period from July through October 1943. Throughout a bitterly fought engagement with the enemy, Private Nasby repeatedly crossed open terrain under severe enemy fire and maintained his machine gun’s ammunition supply. Because of his ceaseless and indefatigable efforts, this weapon was kept in constant use and materially assisted his company in its assault on the enemy. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
