Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 41 (August 28, 1943)
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Kendall Moultrop (ASN: 0-407862), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from April through July 1943. During a coordinated tank-infantry attack on an enemy town, Lieutenant Moultrop, under intense artillery fire from a large caliber gun, personally led his company forward through an area that had just been evacuated by another battalion because of the intensity of enemy fire. Although his company was disorganized and scattered, Lieutenant Moultrop pushed forward until he had attained his objective, a point well within enemy lines. His aggressive and daring actions deceived the enemy as to the size of his force and materially aided our forces in completely routing the enemy from this town. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
