The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Captain (Armor), [then First Lieutenant] Regis E. McCormley (ASN: 0-439136), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Service Company, 68th Tank Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action in the vicinity of Wassertrudingen, Germany, on 6 August 1945. When fire boke out in an ammunition depot, Captain McCormley, despite the danger from exploding shells, courageously moved about the threatened area, fearlessly directed fire fighting groups and skillfully extinguished the blaze, thereby preventing casualties among the men of his organization and saving valuable supplies and equipment. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Captain McCormley reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
