Headquarters, 1st Infantry Division, General Orders No. 3 (January 7, 1946)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade [then Private First Class] Floyd V. Turner (ASN: 35847323), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 3d Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Lichtenberg, Germany, on 24 March 1945. When his company’s position was subjected to an intense cannon, machine gun, and small arms barrage and numerous casualties were sustained, Corporal Turner, with utter disregard for personal safety, courageously moved across perilous terrain to wounded comrades. He then skillfully administered first aid and removed the injured men to a position of safety. Corporal Turner’s gallant actions and outstanding devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
