The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant [then Technician Fourth Grade] Lloyd C. Miller (ASN: 12071923), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Cannon Company, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action in the vicinity of Stein, Germany, on 4 May 1945. When a boat capsized in mid-stream and a comrade was caught in the strong current, Sergeant Miller, with utter disregard for personal safety, courageously swam to the overturned craft and brought the soldier to safety. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Staff Sergeant Miller reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
