The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain Julius Patrick Jaeger, United States Air Force, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with the 457th Tactical Airlift Squadron, 483d Tactical Airlift Wing, SEVENTH Air Force, at Dak Seang, Republic of Vietnam, on 6 April 1970. On that date, as a C-7A Instructor Pilot, Captain Jaeger voluntarily flew his aircraft through a heavy barrage of hostile anti-aircraft fire in order to airdrop critically needed supplies by a Special Forces camp under heavy attack by opposing forces. Captain Jaeger, with complete disregard for his own safety, successfully airdropped the critically needed supplies to the besieged camp to sustain the lives of its defenders. By his gallantry and devotion to duty in the dedication of his service to his country, Captain Jaeger has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
