Martin (ASN: 32066231), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, while temporarily attached to the 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily, on 6 August 1943. Although subjected to heavy enemy artillery fire, Sergeant Martin left his place of shelter, proceeded to the aid of four wounded men of his platoon, and evacuated them.
