    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private John H. McDaniel (ASN: 34185233), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy Tunisia, on or about 29 April 1943. When a small patrol was attacked by a superior enemy force, Private McDaniel and four other men organized a defensive position, fearlessly held their ground, and inflicted numerous casualties on the advancing enemy. Private McDaniel’s outstanding devotion to duty and sound judgment under heavy fire merit the highest praise were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service, reflecting great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
